Ægitna is honoured and humbled to collaborate with the legendary Présence Africaine Editions, which is a symbol and a true lighthouse for Afro-descendant writers, thinking, and literature since 1949 (and 1947 for its journal).

Founded at the dawn of decolonisation, Présence Africaine Editions was at the time the first imprint to publish most of the best known Francophone African writers of the 20th century and has become acknowledged all around the world for its constant publication and promotion of texts by African and Afro-descendant writers, many of whom are now part of the world’s intellectual heritage, translated worldwide, taught in schools and universities -especially within the postcolonial field.

Présence Africaine Editions is also from the very start the first publisher to translate into French leading English-speaking African writers such as Chinua Achebe, Nobel Prize Wole Soyinka, Ngũgĩ wa Thiongʼo, or pan-Africanist leaders Kwame Nkrumah and Julius Nyerere…

Among many famous titles, we can mention works by Aimé Césaire (Notebook of a return to the native land, Discourse on colonialism…), of Jean-Paul Sartre (Black Orpheus), of Djibril Tamsir Niane (Sundjata, an Epic of Old Mali…), of Cheikh Anta Diop, (Pre-colonial black Africa, Civilization or Barbarism…), of Birago Diop (The Tales of Amadou Koumba…), of Ousmane Sembene (The Black Docker, Xala, Guelwaar…), of Joseph Zobel (Black Shack Alley…), etc.
